Zen Zadravec, jazz pianist and saxophonist, is a true musical chameleon. Whether performing jazz, R&B, funk, rock, or pop, he brings a freshness and confidence rarely found in a musician of his generation. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1974, Zadravec began studying classical piano at the age of five. By eleven, he had also taken up the saxophone and flute. A transformative encounter with the music of Miles Davis ultimately inspired his decision to pursue jazz as his life’s calling. In 1992, Zadravec enrolled in the Jazz Program at York University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1997. During his studies, he was twice honored with the prestigious Oscar Peterson Award for excellence in jazz piano performance. He went on to complete a Graduate Degree in Jazz Performance at Rutgers University in 2000. Zadravec has studied with several jazz greats, including Kenny Barron, Don Thompson, John Gittens, Vic Juris, Ted Dunbar, and Ralph Bowen. His approach is versatile, creative, and energetic, constantly evolving through performance, recording, and education. A natural innovator and bandleader, Zadravec leads two ensembles: the Zen Zadravec Quartet and the fusion group Human Revolution. His artistic vision is to create music that uplifts, inspires, and resonates emotionally. His compositions explore beautiful melodies, rich harmonic structures, and complex rhythms. Highly sought-after as a sideman, Zadravec has performed or recorded with an impressive list of artists, including Ron Carter, Louis Hayes, Karriem Riggins, Ali Jackson, Mike Pope, Mark Whitfield Jr., Bijon Watson, Mark Gross, Derrick Gardner, Vincent Gardner, Todd Bashore, Kenny Davis, Steve Turre, Sean Jones, Conrad Herwig, Freddie Hendrix, Don Thompson, Barry Elmes, Mike Murley, Lorne Lofsky, Charles Fambrough, Valery Ponomarev, Dave Watson, Darryl Dixon, Gloria Gaynor, Joan Rivers, Bob Newhart, and Sally Kellerman. His media appearances include performances on The Whoopi Goldberg Radio Show (WKTU, New York), The Wendy Williams Show, and The Today Show with Gloria Gaynor on NBC alongside Kathie Lee Gifford. Zadravec continues to pursue his path as a performer, composer, sideman, and artist. His groups maintain a busy concert schedule across the United States, Canada, Europe, and East Asia. His upcoming album, The New Paradigm—a straight-ahead jazz release—promises to make waves and capture the attention of jazz audiences worldwide.
