Chuck Newsome is a versatile guitarist, composer, arranger, and educator based in Detroit, Michigan. He is an active jazz guitarist in the metropolitan area, frequently playing at local venues such as the Dirty Dog Jazz Café, Cliff Bells Jazz Club, and many others. Chuck has also performed multiple times at the Detroit Jazz Festival, and across the world at theaters, clubs, and festivals as a sideman for a long list of collaborators. Most recently, he toured in Japan and Panama as a member of the Detroit Jazz Festival All-Stars. After completing a B.M. (’07) and a M.M. (’09) at Wayne State University, Chuck became an adjunct faculty member and has been teaching in the Department of Music since 2010, primarily in the area of Jazz Guitar Performance. In addition to maintaining a busy performance and teaching schedule in the area of jazz, Chuck has been a guest performer and soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra multiple times, and frequently performed with the Fisher Theater Orchestra and the Wharton Theater Orchestra, supporting nationally touring musical productions.
