Guitarist John Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser whose music generally falls somewhere between post-bop, funk edged jazz, and R & B. A triple Grammy winner, he has prominently led his own groups in the international jazz scene, recorded over 40 albums as a leader in the company of such major players as Charlie Haden, Pat Metheny, Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, Brad Mehldau and Eddie Harris. A 3.5 year member of Mile Davis’s band, he’s played and recorded with Miles, Tony Williams, Jim Hall, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Dave Holland among many jazz legends. Throughout his career Mr. Scofield has punctuated his traditional jazz offerings with funk-oriented electric music.
For over 40 years, the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation has celebrated Detroit’s rich history of jazz music by providing year-round concerts and educational programming, and of course, organizing the world’s largest free Jazz festival, featuring world-class talent, over Labor Day weekend.
