“The Search: Echoes of the Fallen” features original compositions by Karim Tabu Gideon as well as selections from the incredible songbook he spent a lifetime cultivating. “The Search” formed as a collective after Karim’s passing to protect and proliferate the tradition of the living culture and spiritual practice that is Detroit Jazz, in tribute to the musical lineage of Dr. Teddy Harris, Harold McKinney, and Marcus Belgrave and so many other which flows without bounds through Karim as he now walks with those ancestors. We are individually and collectively committed to the continuation and integrity of what we understand to be the Detroit Sound, through both Karim’s legacy and our own experiences within this craft and language we call Jazz. Special thanks and honor to Margaret Gideon, Makibla Gideon, and the rest of the Gideon family for their generosity and permission in keeping Karim’s memory and legacy alive and thriving. Aho. Asé.
